Olá, Hola, Hello, and thank you for visiting Out of the Wings, celebrating the theatre of the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking worlds.

AN UPDATE ON OUR WORK IN 2021

As uncertainty owing to the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Out of the Wings will keep its activities online until further notice. We were delighted to receive so many wonderful submissions from translators and playwrights for our fifth annual festival of plays from the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking worlds, originally scheduled for August 2020. We still intend to hold this event at a later date, and have remained in contact with our host venue, the Omnibus Theatre, and with the playwrights and translators whose work has been selected.

In the meantime, our activities continue: in autumn 2020, we released Ceremonias Pandémicas, a tryptic of films based on the works of Cuban playwright Abilio Estévez. In February 2021, we invited audiences worldwide to our Winter Warmer, hosted online by the Omnibus, featuring an emerging translators’ scratch night, a Friday promenade, a day of discussion focusing on Black theatre-makers, and the launch of six plays in English translation, published by the newly established Inti Press.

We continue to plan for 2021 and beyond, and meeting every month to read a play in translation. For full details of our work, please keep in touch with us via the links at our contact page.
