Mónica Maffía is a playwright, librettist, opera and theatre director born in Buenos Aires. Her plays have been translated into English, French and Greek. .
As a director, she has staged over 50 plays by Aeschylus, Shakespeare, Molière, Strindberg, Berkoff, Pinter and operas such as The Magic Flute, Faust, Carmina Burana, Il Tabarro, A Hand of Bridge.
Her third opera libretto Lilith, Black Moon (Lilith, Luna Negra) was commissioned by the “International Music and Dance Festival, Ciudad de Úbeda” and premiered in 2019. It has recently been produced in Madrid and will be part of the International Chamber Opera Festival “Little Opera” taking place in Zamora (Spain) in July 2021.
Mónica is a member of: The Spanish Academy of the Performing Arts; The Advisory Board of Cambridge Scholars Publishing; PEN International (Argentine Centre).
