Estela Golovchenko is a dramatist, actor, teacher and theatre director and in 2015 was appointed as Director of Culture for the Province of Río Negro in Uruguay, where she has lived and worked all her life. She wrote Ready or Not (Punto y coma) in 2003 and it was awarded a prize by the National Theatre Foundation in Uruguay.
In 1986 she established the Teatro sin Fogón in Fray Bentos and the theatre has played an essential role in making and raising the profile of theatre outside of the capital city, Montevideo, whilst creating training opportunities for young actors and students.
Estela Golovchenko has received the Florencio Award (critics award) on several occasions for her work as an actor, author and director and in 2014 she received a nomination for the national award for best Uruguayan play for her most recent work, La canción de las palabras esdrújulas.
Her plays have been performed in Spain, Italy, México, Peru and Argentina.
