Celebrated playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker brings her translation from Basque of Ibrahima Balde and Amets Arzallus Antia‘s award-winning memoir to the stage. Artistic Director Stella Powell-Jones directs this modern odyssey which follows Ibrahima from Guinea, West Africa to Europe, sweeping across borders to find a path of hope.

In Guinea, West Africa, Ibrahima discovers that his little brother has secretly run away from school and is heading to Europe. Ibrahima drops everything to go after him, setting off on the migrant routes of the Sahara towards the Mediterranean. Risking his life countless times, Ibrahima encounters the best and worst of humanity along the perilous road.

But it’s getting hotter, cracks are starting to show and someone comes knocking. A stranger. What does she want? What’s in that cake she’s carrying? Ricky says let her in! Joe thinks what if it’s poisoned?
Set in the near future, this serious comedy asks what happens if you welcome the uninvited Guest? Will the cracks between the couple widen? And what does their mysterious Guest really want?

Facilitator mentoring opportunity is aimed at global majority artists interested in developing their skills as workshop facilitators, applications open until 10th February 2025.

Eating Stories workshop is an immersive, exciting 2-hour workshop inviting participants to explore their personal relationship with food. Participant fee will help fund taking the workshop to 90 communities (migrant & refugee majority) who would not be able to afford it otherwise.

2024 was another year of community and growth for OOTW, our monthly readings brought plays from Spain, Cuba and Colombia, and kept bringing new participants, both online and in person interested in developing their translation work and learning for others.
We spend an evening in May sharing work in progress, brought spotlight to Cuban Drama, and in July we celebrated theatre in translation in our yearly festival held at Omnibus Theatre, showcasing plays from Spain, Brazil, Panamá, Chile, and Argentina.

Eurodram´s biennal plays selection is open!

Eurodram invite submissions of English translations of European plays written in languages other than English for their catalogue consideration.

Eurodram is a Paris-based network with the mission to promote communication of theater writing between different European language groups. Their main objective is promote contemporary plays from across the wider European area to theatre professionals and theatre audiences.

The English Language Committee is facilitated by the Cherry Arts: a multi-arts company in Ithaca, NY

Submissions will be due Jan 1, 2025.

Uproar is an interdisciplinary performance exploring the right to protest and the power of collective action. A journey from injustice to hope, powered by unity. Created in response to the deaths of 50 civilians in Peru (2022-2023), Uproar sheds light on Peru’s ongoing crisis—rooted in unresolved colonial issues like discrimination, racism, and classism. It raises awareness of peaceful protests and invites audiences to sound together in a collective call for social justice, fostering empathy and solidarity in facing these global challenges. This original project by Latin American immigrant artist women in the UK aims to inspire social justice, and present new strategies for cohesion and resilience through art.

Adapted by myself and accompanied by contemporary music from French composer Arthur Astier, Mystical Ecstasy celebrates the courage and innovation of these Golden Age women.

The play is named after the former eponymous restaurant owned by a Swiss-Italian family, a few doors down from Richmond Station. It explores the themes of emigration from the often-forgotten perspective of women.
